How is the 2026 Taiwan electricity bill calculated?
Taiwan Power Company uses a progressive rate structure - the more you use, the higher the rate per kWh. 2026 rates are divided into summer (Jun-Sep) and non-summer periods. Summer Tier 1 (1-120 kWh) is NT$1.68/kWh, rising to NT$7.69/kWh for usage above 1000 kWh.
Why is the summer electricity bill higher?
Summer bills are higher for two reasons: 1) Summer rates (Jun-Sep) are higher, with Tier 3+ costing NT$0.5-1.5 more per kWh than non-summer; 2) Air conditioning dramatically increases usage, pushing you into higher rate tiers. Summer bills can be 2-3x higher than non-summer.
How much electricity does a typical household use per month?
A typical Taiwan household uses 300-500 kWh/month. Non-summer: 300 kWh costs ~NT$648, 500 kWh ~NT$1,283. Summer: 300 kWh ~NT$717, 500 kWh ~NT$1,449. A family of four in summer may use 700-1000 kWh, costing NT$3,000-6,000+.
